ABOUT MARELIZE VISSER

Marelize Visser – Owner and Professional Registered Structural Engineer: Graduated at the University of Johannesburg (formerly the Rand Afrikaans University), completing her degree in Civil Engineering (B.Eng) and her Masters Degree M.Eng (Engineering Management), she holds a professional registration (Pr.Eng) with the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), is registered in South Africa with the South African Institute of Civil Engineers (SAICE www.saice.co.za), also awarded Fellowship (FSaice). Marelize Visser also holds an international professional registration (CEng) with The Engineering Council (UK), as well as being awarded Fellowship at (FIStructeE) with The Institution of Structural Engineers (ISTRUCTE www.istucte.org).

Her career commenced in 2000 while actively working in the construction industry working for Karena Africa (which at that stage formed part of Grinaker-LTA), a specialist in continuous silo sliding formwork construction as well as concrete rehabilitation projects.

Marelize joined SMEC Consulting Engineers, formerly known as VelaVKE at their Pretoria office – an astute consulting engineering firm where she did bridge and culvert design, detailing, tender documentation and specification as well as concrete bridge rehabilitation investigations for SANRAL (South African National Roads Agency).

Marelize expanded her design capability into temporary works design (Formwork, Falsework, and Shoring) as a new challenge at two leading companies in the industry (RMD Kwikform and FormScaff respectively) and enjoyed the day to day challenges synonymous with the industry. This change in her career helped to gain exposure on the corporate side of the engineering profession.

Marelize’s burning desire in adding value toward the structural engineering industry lead to her starting her own Structural Engineering Consultancy Practice (TMV CONSULTING AND DESIGN). This was the logical next step in pushing the service delivery envelope and quality design in terms of professional structural engineering services rendered to the South African market.
